Melbourne, Australia – Aurabox is proud to be working with the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) Alliance to support the PEN-TEST project, a state-wide initiative aimed at improving outcomes for patients with penile and testicular cancer through expert collaboration and discussion.

Aurabox's cutting-edge medical imaging collaboration platform is playing a pivotal role in enabling fortnightly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings for the PEN-TEST project, enabling clinicians across Victoria to share, view, and collaborate on medical imaging in the review of complex patients.

The Aurabox platform

Aurabox's unified platform aggregates and allows comparison of medical imaging, pathology results, and documents, enhancing treatment decisions for penile and testicular cancers, regardless of where the patient’s data is located.

Dr Chaturica Athukorala, CEO of Aurabox, stated, "We are delighted to be working with VCCC Alliance on the PEN-TEST project and facilitating seamless collaboration across Victoria. This initiative demonstrates the power of technology in uniting healthcare professionals to significantly impact patient outcomes, and is the perfect use case for Aurabox, which was designed to make sharing of medical imaging easy and quick."

Improving access for regional patients to high quality care

The VCCC Alliance PEN-TEST project significantly advances the fight against penile and testicular cancer.

The strength of the PEN-TEST project lies in its ability to connect clinicians, fostering a community of shared knowledge and expertise. PEN-TEST addresses challenges for regional and rural patients by improving access to specialised care and reducing travel needs. This collaboration emphasises the importance of innovation in patient care.

“Aurabox's technology is breaking down geographical barriers, allowing for an unprecedented level of collaboration amongst clinicians. This means quicker, more informed decisions can be made for patients, ensuring they receive the best possible care,” said Dr Athukorala, “It's incredibly rewarding to see the project come to life, knowing the positive impact it will have on individuals affected by these rare cancers."

About the PEN-TEST project

The PEN-TEST (Penile and Testicular Cancer Multidisciplinary Forum) project, conceptualised by Associate Professor Niall Corcoran, VCCC Alliance Research & Education Lead for Genito-urinary Cancer and urological surgeon; and Associate Professor Ian Collins, VCCC Alliance Regional Lead and medical oncologist, is a ground-breaking initiative designed to enhance the treatment and research of penile and testicular cancer. By providing a cross-institutional space to collaborate on complex patients, PEN-TEST aims to determine optimal treatment paths, support local care and identify appropriate clinical trials. This approach is especially crucial for supporting regional and rural clinicians, whose patients with these less common cancers face additional challenges, including the need to travel for specialised treatment. PEN-TEST is run by Barwon Health and led locally by Dr David Campbell and Dr Benjamin Thomas.

“The PEN-TEST project represents a significant step forward in our approach to treating less common and rare cancers, especially for patients in regional areas,” said A/Prof Collins, “The Aurabox platform has enabled us to bring together the best of medical expertise and technology to ensure that every patient, regardless of where they live, has access to the highest standards of care.”
